Ecology Services for Western Environs Road Improvement Scheme in Kilkenny City

Summary:

MOR Environmental was commissioned by Kilkenny County Council (KCC) to undertaken a suite of ecological assessments in relation to the Kilkenny Western Environs Scheme – First Phase Infrastructure works. The works form part of an ongoing road infrastructure improvement scheme being undertaken in Kilkenny City.  The Western Environs Scheme includes the construction of new sections of road and upgrades to the existing roads; including roundabouts, footpaths, and cycleways. As part of the works there was also a requirement to realign a section of the River Breagagh.

Scope:

In support of the works, a suite of detailed ecological surveys and assessments were undertaken, including:

    • Habitat assessments,
    • Aquatic Surveys,
    • Otter Surveys,
    • Bat Surveys,
    • Kingfisher Surveys,
    • Invasive Species Surveys.
  • Consultation with statutory bodies
  • Preparation of:
    • Natural Impact Statement.
    • Roosting Bat Survey Report.
    • Invasive Species Survey Report.
    • Aquatic Ecology Report.

Outputs:

The construction works are scheduled to be completed in 2020. All ecological issues have been addressed to the satisfaction of all parties.
