Development of an Inert Landfill Facility in County Kildare – Compliance and Design
Summary:
MOR Environmental was commissioned by Walshestown Restoration Ltd (WRL) to provide professional environmental and engineering services for the design and construction of an inert waste facility located at Walshestown, Co Kildare.
The Walshestown facility operates under an EPA Waste Licence W0254-01 and a Planning Permission granted by Kildare County Council. The total capacity of the facility is 2.4 million tonnes.
Scope:
We have designed, supervised and obtained the EPA’s approval for the construction of the Site’s infrastructure, including two fully engineered cells (Cells 1A and 1B). The works have included the preparation and submission of detailed Specified Engineering Works (SEW) Proposals and Quality Control Assurance (CQA) reports for the completed infrastructure.
Since 2016, we have carried out quarterly environmental compliance monitoring to assess the quality of groundwater, surface water and storm water at the Site.
Outputs:
We have ensured that reports required under Waste Licence W0254-01 have met with approval of the EPA. Such reports have included – Construction Management Plan, Waste Acceptance Procedures, Hydrogeological Risk Assessment, and Closure and Restoration Management Plan (CRAMP).
