Detailed Hydrogeological Assessment Kilsheelan Quarry
Summary:
MOR Environmental was commissioned by Kilsheelan Limestone Quarries Ltd. to undertake a hydrogeological assessment to facilitate the resumption of quarrying works at a former quarry, located in Kilsheelan, Co. Tipperary.
Scope:
Historic quarrying operations had necessitated significant dewatering operations that resulted in a cone of depression around the perimeter of the site. The pumped groundwater discharges to the Ballydine stream that flows into the River Suir, a protected Natura site. The detailed assessment work undertaken by the MOR team included the following tasks:
- Desk-based studies – review of historical records.
- Groundwater pump tests.
- Groundwater quality testing.
- Data Evaluation.
- Assimilative capacity studies.
Outputs:
All works met with the approval of Tipperary County Council in order to allow the resumption of quarrying works at the site.
